In a dimly lit, smoke-filled garage, a lone figure tinkered with a mess of wires and circuits. This was Rick Sanchez, the smartest being in the multiverse. His eyes, a piercing blue, darted between the various gadgets and machinery, his mind racing with the possibilities.

As he worked, his thoughts drifted back to his past, to the events that had shaped him into the cynical, hard-drinking, and genius that he was today. He remembered his childhood, growing up in a world that was not his own. A world where he was an outcast, a freak, a genius among simpletons.

Rick's thoughts were interrupted by the sound of footsteps outside the garage. It was Morty, his grandson, the one person in the multiverse who still managed to tolerate him. Rick's expression softened, ever so slightly, as Morty approached.

"Rick, what are you working on?" Morty asked, eyeing the mess of wires and circuits.

"Just a little something I'm building," Rick replied, not looking up.

Morty nodded, recognizing the tone. It was a tone that said, "Mind your own business, kid."

As the two worked in silence, Rick's thoughts continued to wander. He thought about his wife, the love of his life, who had left him. He thought about his daughter, Beth, who had grown up to resent him. And he thought about his life, a life of adventure and tragedy, of triumph and heartache.

But those thoughts were for another time, another dimension. For now, there was work to be done. There were gadgets to build, alternate realities to explore, and adventures to be had.

"I'm going to go get some szechuan sauce," Rick said, suddenly, standing up and brushing off his pants.

Morty's eyes lit up. "Can I come?"

Rick hesitated for a moment, then nodded. "Yeah, kid. You can come."

Together, they set off into the multiverse, leaving the garage, and the past, behind.
