Sam Bankman-Fried, the founder of the FTX cryptocurrency exchange, has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for fraud and related crimes. He was found guilty on seven counts of fraud and conspiracy in November 2023.

As of now, Sam Bankman-Fried is being held in a prison in California, after being transferred from a Brooklyn jail. He had requested to stay in Brooklyn to help prepare his appeal, but was instead moved to a facility in Mendota, California.

His legal troubles began when he was accused of stealing $8 billion from customers of the now-defunct FTX cryptocurrency exchange. Three key cooperating witnesses, including former FTX co-founder Gary Wang, chief engineer Nishad Singh, and Alameda Research CEO Caroline Ellison, pleaded guilty to criminal charges and agreed to testify against Bankman-Fried in exchange for lighter sentences.
