Who was Jesus?
Jesus of Nazareth, commonly known as Jesus Christ, was a Jewish preacher and religious leader who is believed by Christians to be the Son of God and the savior of humanity. He was born circa 4 BC in Bethlehem, in the Roman province of Judea, to Mary, a virgin, and Joseph, a carpenter.
Jesus' life and teachings are recorded in the New Testament of the Bible, which includes the four Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John) and the letters of Paul. According to the Gospels, Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist, began his public ministry at around the age of 30, and preached about the kingdom of God, performing miracles, and calling people to repentance.
Jesus' message emphasized the importance of loving God and one's neighbor, and his teachings challenged the existing religious and social norms of his time. He gained a large following, but his popularity and challenge to the authority of the Roman Empire and the Jewish religious leaders ultimately led to his arrest, trial, and crucifixion.
However, Jesus' death was not the end, as he was said to have been resurrected on the third day, appearing to his disciples and giving them instructions to spread his message to all nations. The resurrection of Jesus is seen as a pivotal event in Christianity, as it is believed to demonstrate his divinity and the fulfillment of his mission to save humanity from sin.
