Ratno Dholi The best stories of Dhumketu. Translated from Gujarati by Jenny Bhatt. t the very end of the village, at the foot of a small mountain, he lived in a small hut that he had built. In the land around the hut, he had planted a few saplings and, in their presence, he sat playing his dhol and enjoying himself. On top of the mountain there were many ancient rocks. If those rocks faltered and fell, then his hut would be wiped out clean. But he used to say that it had prevailed under the refuge of the goddess’ might. Those rocks would strike like gongs and bring to mind the ringing of clear bronze. The villagers called them stone gongs. A large river flowed behind the gong-like mountain.
