Understanding Plagiarism: A Comprehensive Guide
What is plagiarism? Plagiarism is a term that describes the unauthorized use of another person's work. This includes material or ideas from any source (published or unpublished), whether in print, on the web (even if freely available), or audiovisual. Using someone else's words or ideas without citing your source would be considered plagiarism and is a very serious academic offense. After all, this is considered theft of intellectual property. The following are considered forms of plagiarism: Passing off work as your own that is partly or entirely the work of another student. Citing and referencing sources that you did not use. Quoting, summarizing, or paraphrasing material in your assignment without citing the original source. "Recycling" part of your work that you have already submitted for another module or course (i.e. self-plagiarism).
